DAN’S THE MAN TO LIFT THE TERRIERS
SOME doubted whether Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley would thrive in the second tier – the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award for October proves otherwise.
The Terriers were in the doldrums when Cowley, and brother and assistant Nicky, took the reins in September, but 11 points from five unbeaten games in October lifted the mood and saw them climb out of the relegation zone.
A modest Cowley, 41, right, said: “I’m happy to accept this award on behalf of every member of staff and every player at Huddersfield Town, because our form over October is down to an incredible team effort.
“The players deserve so much credit. Their attitude and appliter has been good and we’ve enjoyed their full commitment.”
On the pitch, Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic scooped the Championship Player of the Month honour after hitting six goals in five games, including a hattrick against Luton.
The 25-year-old Serb said: “It’s always nice when you win personal awards. It means that I did something right, that the team did something right as well, so it’s a nice feeling.”
In League One, Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson claimed the manager prize. The 47-year-old’s side collected 11 points from five unbeaten matches, including a 4-0 thumping of Accrington.
“We had a really good month, going through it unbeaten and we scored a lot of goals,” he said. “I have read about the Manager of the Month curse and we haven’t started November particularly well, but we know that there is plenty of improvement within the group.” Rochdale forward Ian Henderson bagged the player accolade afcation notching five goals.
“It is an honour and privilege to receive this recognition and award,” said the 34-yearold.
In League Two, Salford City manager Graham Alexander has beaten off all-comers. The Ammies picked up ten points from five games.
“It’s a great credit to everyone involved at Salford City,” said the 48-year-old. “The team have performed excellently over the last month.”
Swindon striker Eoin Doyle won the player prize after helping himself to six goals in four games.
The 31-year-old, on loan from Bradford, said: “It feels great and it’s good to play in a team with a lot of flair, a lot of talent. It’s pretty beneficial to me.”
