CARDIFF City have handed Neil Harris the chance to revive their fortunes and lead them back to the Premier League.

VARNEY: I’M HAVING A BALL AT CHELTENHAM TOWN

After veteran boss Neil Warnock departed last Monday, the Bluebirds moved swiftly to bring in former Milwall manager Harris.

The man known as Chopper led the Lions to promotion from League One in his four-and-a

-half year stint in the Lions hotseat, but will now be tasked with the challenge of taking Cardiff back into the top-flight.

Announcing his appointment yesterday, Cardiff owner Vincent Tan said: “I am pleased to appoint Neil as first team manager of the club.

“I have full confidence in Neil due to his principles on and off the pitch and enthusiasm to succeed. I am glad to offer him this opportunity and look forward to seeing what he is capable of achieving with Cardiff City.”

Chairman Mehmet Dalman added: “Neil is a passionate manager who has all of the right attributes to take the helm at Cardiff City. I know he’s eager to get to work and we look forward to seeing him strive to get the best out of our tight-knit and talented group of players.”

The 42-year-old has signed a deal at Cardiff City Stadium running until the summer of 2022 and will joined by David Livermore as assistant manager. His first match in charge will be back in London, at Charlton next Saturday.

Harris, who had a brief loan spell at Cardiff in 2004, stepped down as Millwall boss last month.

Cardiff are 14th in the Championship, eight points above the relegation places but seven points shy of the play-offs. They will now be hoping Harris’ arrival will lead to an upturn in results.
