Armand’s just two good for Wombles

- By John McDougall

GLYN Hodges was left ruing a self-inflicted downfall as Armand Gnanduillet bagged a second-half double to consign AFC Wimbledon to defeat at Blackpool.

Good work from Nathan Delfouneso saw Gnanduillet fire home just after the break before sealing the win with a neat finish from Liam Feeney’s cross.

But the striker’s double reflected lapses in concentration for the Wombles – a setback leaving Hodges pondering how to turn it around.

“I’m disappointed and angry, thinking we sort of caused our own downfall with errors that are unforced, which crept in,” he said.

“It’s a bit disappointing, but we were okay at times. Credit to them, they were ruthless, they punished us in those times, but even at 1-0, I thought we’ll get a goal here. It’s just stopping those unforced errors.

“We’ve got to be more consistent, especially away from hom. We need to try to pick up some points, but we’re going to have a go whatever.”

Sullay Kaikai blasted against the bar early on from outside the area and Nathan Delfouneso hooked the rebound over as the hosts dominated. Kaikai’s free-kick curled off target, while Matty Virtue chested down Jay Spearing’s pass, but fired straight at keeper Nathan Trott.

Jak Alnwick punched Max Sanders’ free-kick to safety and the home stopper collected Terell Thomas’ drive at the second time of asking.

Blackpool took the lead shortly after the restart when Gnanduillet’s effort flew in following Delfouneso’s good work. Gnanduillet secured the points with fewer than 10 minutes left after slotting home Feeney’s cross from close range.

Alnwick kept Marcus Forss’ shot out as Dons failed to find a consolation.

“It was an important win for us,” said Tangerines boss Simon Grayson. “We knew it was going to be a tough day because of the results that they’ve had recently.

“First half I thought we were okay and didn’t look in too many problems.

“Offensively we just needed a little bit more intensity, pass it a bit quicker, make better decisions and we carried that out in the second half.

“I thought Armand was a real handful and I’m not just talking about his goals.”
