team mates

- Sam Walker

Best mate?

There’s a decent group of us who are all pretty good mates – Sam Baldock, Chris Gunter, John Swift and Garath McCleary. We’ve got a good golfing group here and we all play together quite regularly. Swifty is the best – he plays off eight! We like to go for dinner sometimes when we can as well.

Last to buy dinner?

I’d probably say Josh Barrett as he’s always a bit concerned about getting his wallet out – we’re currently planning our Christmas party and he’s thinking about not booking a hotel and just staying out all night as it’s too expensive!

Worst dressed?

George Puscas sports some interesting gear – it’s all a bit left-field and quite out there. He was pretty understated in what he wore early on but now he’s coming out with some unusual t-shirts and things.

Dressing room DJ?

It’s normally Tyler Blackett who’s on the tunes before a game – we’re quite R&B and hip-hopbased at the club but sometimes he throws some more upbeat house stuff in.

We’re a dressing room full of different cultures so we definitely try and cater for that.

Always late for training?

It used to be Mo Barrow but he’s left to go out on loan – he’s a great player but never on time! Most of us are actually pretty good at the moment – we’ve got a good fines system in place in the run-up to the Christmas party, so the lads are all staying punctual!

Teacher’s pet?

Charlie Adam is definitely the teacher’s pet – he can always be seen having a chat with the coaching staff. He’s obviously getting towards the end of his career so I think he’s just trying to pick some stuff up and get as much experience as he can.

First on the dancefloor?

Yakou Meite is a pretty good dancer actually – he doesn’t even need a dancefloor to take an opportunity to throw some shapes. Lucas Joao is another one who likes to get a move on.

Most likely to disgrace themselves at the Christmas party?

I’d have to say one of the younger lads – we went on a pre-season tour to Spain near Marbella and a few of them got a bit carried away.

They could easily get roped into doing something by one of the older lads – Josh Barrett or Tom McIntyre are the two main ones I’d say.

Best at FIFA?

We’ve got a lot of gamers at the club actually – David Meyler was a big one before he left. John Swift and Jordan Obita are always playing each other on away trips – they play a bit of PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, but I don’t know too much as I’m not a gamer myself. It’s constantly switching between who wins but you’re only as good as your last performance!

Worst tattoo?

I can’t think of too many bad ones here actually, but John Swift has a sleeve and Lucas Boye has one I can think of. At Colchester, Dillon Barnes had a Mario Kart one of a baby or something so that was some pretty impressive artwork!

Best future manager?

Quite a few of us want to go into coaching actually, but Michael Morrison would probably be the best – I’d be amazed if in ten or 15 years he wasn’t doing it. He’s a serious thinker about the game and a big leader in the dressing room.
