Anderson demands more from the Robins

- By Carl Evans

KESHI Anderson wants Swindon to continue playing on the front foot when they visit Port Vale on the back on a convincing win over Cambridge on Boxing Day.

Anderson bagged a hat-trick as the League Two leaders swept Cambridge aside after Eoin

Doyle had scored his 15th goal in 11 games from the penalty spot early on.

The 24-year-old said in a video posted on the club’s Twitter account: “We’ve just got to keep playing on the front foot because we’ve been playing some good football.”

Swindon boss Richie Wellens added: “We played really well in the final third and when we got what we wanted to do right, we looked like we could create a lot of chances.

“We made it difficult against Cambridge, who are brave and can be a threat. All in all, it was a really good team performance.

“We gave the players Christmas Day off and they’ve come out and put in a really good performance.

“If you look at our forward players in the last eight or nine games: Doyle’s scoring a lot of goals but Jerry Yates is a goal threat, Anderson is a goal threat, Kaiyne Woolery is a goal threat and Michael Doughty is a goal threat.

“We’ve got a lot of attacking options and Anthony Grant in midfield holds it all together.”

Doyle slotted home his 21st of the season, a fifth-minute penalty, to give the league leaders the early advantage.

Anderson added a second after an exquisite move by the hosts. Paul Caddis lofted the ball into Woolery, he nodded it into the path of Anderson who dinked the ball past Dimitar Mitov to make it 2-0.

Anderson then made it 3-0 with a more individual effort, as he struck from range.

And Anderson completed his hat-trick after 66 minutes by tucking into an open goal. Cambridge manager Colin Calderwood said: “We made simple mistakes and lost possession to ourselves.

“To be behind to the penalty decision was horrible.

“We felt sorry for ourselves but they were very incisive and quick, but I felt one or two players switched off.

“I think the penalty is a nonsense of a decision. I’m annoyed about our level and that’s the most important thing. It’s a lack of belief.”
