The Football League Paper

Don’t give up! Your club can rise again...

-

WELL, it’s been quite some decade, hasn’t it?

Take Leicester City, for example. Ten years ago, the Foxes were making a successful fist of being back in the Championship after a trip down to League One. They missed out in the play-offs that season and spent another four years in the second tier before stepping up to the Premier League as Championship winners in 2013-14.

Two seasons later, they were, remarkably, Premier League champions under Claudio Ranieri. They’re not doing too badly under Brendan Rodgers right now either…

You’ve also got to admire what Luton

Town have achieved over the past decade. The Hatters were just getting used to life in the Conference at that time. Indeed, it took them five years to get back to the EFL.

Since then, Luton have worked their way back up to the Championship with the help of back-to-back promotions.

In 2009-10, Bournemouth won promotion from League Two. Since then they’ve climbed all the way to the Premier League and established themselves in the top-flight under the astute management of Eddie Howe.

Those are just a few examples of clubs who have been upwardly mobile over the past decade. So if your team is currently sliding down the divisions or in the doldrums, there is room for optimism.

With a lot of hard work, shrewd managerial appointments, quality player recruitment, a reasonable budget and a bit of luck, your team could turn the corner and start heading in the right direction again. That’s the hope anyway!
