BIGGER BROTHERS SHOULD SHOW SUPPORT

-

I’M not operating inside a club right now, so I can only imagine the worry around the three very difficult big issues that must be on the agenda.

Firstly, and most importantly, there are all the public life safety matters that need to be prioritised and addressed.

These sit firmly alongside the well-being strategies needed to look after players and staff.

But at a time when we know that smaller clubs are suffering difficulties, we really must make sure that club life safety is protected too.

And we need to do it speedily so that there is no conflict created when it comes to making the right decisions around matches and event protocols.

Small clubs do depend on their gate revenues. They aren’t blessed with the phenomenal revenues which television provides to Premier League clubs.

I’ve been vocal FOREVER about the lack of balance in the resourcing of the pyramid structure with far too much funding going to the top end of the game.

At a time when matches are being postponed and there’s a possibility of behindclosed-doors games in the future, it is time for the top clubs to give a little, to enable those less fortunate to do the right things, to protect their fans, their players and their staff and not to have to worry about survival at the same time.

The small change of the big will make a substantial difference to those lower down. Football is a family and it is only right at this vital moment that the bigger brothers should show some community spirit and help the smaller clubs through.

Let’s take a holistic view. Let’s show some decency. Let’s share and let’s ensure that football collectively protects its people.

Do it with money and do it without delay. It is essential. That’s what I say.
