PENNING LONGER DEAL IS A DREAM FOR DAN

- By Euan Parsons

DANNY McNamara admits committing his longterm future to Millwall “means the world” to him.

The 22-year-old rightback, who has come through the ranks at the club he has long supported, made his first-team debut for the Lions in the FA Cup in January having impressed on loan at Newport and St Johnstone in the last couple of seasons.

He is looking to kick on, and said: “I’m really happy. It’s something that has been in the pipeline for about a month now, so I’m buzzing to get it sorted.

“Being a Millwall boy – as are all my family – it means the world. Hopefully I’m doing them proud.”

McNamara has been a regular since making his debut against Boreham Wood in the Cup, and he added: “I didn’t realise my debut was going to come around so soon (after returning from his St

Johnstone loan), but I was over the moon.

“It was down to me to show I could be trusted and I feel as though I did that. Within three days, I was in again against Bournemouth, and I think that shows the gaffer (Gary Rowett) can trust me and vice versa.

“It’s been an all-round positive start and I hope I can continue that for the rest of the season.”

Millwall have also tied 28-year-old full-back Murray Wallace, who has made close to 100 appearances for the club, down to a new ‘long-term’ deal.

Wallace said: “When the chats first came about regarding extending the contract, it was brilliant to hear.

“I came to Millwall because I wanted to play a lot of games.”

Wallace is hopeful of a return to training soon as he is currently out of action with a broken foot.

He added: “The recovery is going well.”
