Angry Neil hits out as Pool let it slip at death

- By Thomas Williams

NEIL Critchley blasted his Blackpool side for throwing away three points at struggling Wimbledon.

Ellis Simms’ second-half strike opened the scoring for the hosts, but they let their foot off the gas.

That led to Ollie Palmer claiming a point for the Dons deep into injury time.

And Critchley criticised his side for their inconsistent performance.

“It’s a real tough one to take,” he said.

“I don’t feel great obviously, it feels like you’ve been beaten when you concede so late in the game.

“Having gone in front we stopped doing the things that got us in that position in the first place.

“We were the dominant team in the second-half and we controlled the game.

“But we have to try and produce that form for 90 minutes and we aren’t doing it for long enough periods.”

Dons striker Joe Pigott was denied early on as Blackpool keeper Chris Maxwell made a superb reaction save.

Seconds later, midfielder Jack Rudoni forced home for the visitors but had his effort ruled out for offside.

Blackpool winger Demetri Mitchell then lobbed Dons goalkeeper Sam Walker, but defender Will Nightingale cleared off the line.

Everton loanee Simms then gave Blackpool the lead just before the hour mark when he diverted Jerry Yates’ goal-bound strike to wrong-foot Walker.

Rudoni scuffed a glorious chance for a Dons equaliser with Maxwell stranded.

But they finally did get an equaliser deep into injury time when Palmer, diverted Jaako Oksanen’s cross into the back of the net.

Dons boss Mark Robinson felt his side deserved plenty more from the match.

“The first 25 minutes was the closest to how I see us playing and that was really pleasing but we need a bit more quality in the final third with our decision making,” he said.

“I’ve got mixed feelings because of the manner of their goal. I’m pleased with the point but I felt it could possibly have been three.

“We had some good chances and I thought we thoroughly deserved a point.

“We’ve just got to get players believing in themselves, dominate the ball and keep creating these chances.”
