Caretaker Jon Brady’s bid to keep Northampton in League One
KEITH CURLE insists he is prioritising Oldham’s short-term fortunes, after signing a deal to take charge at Boundary Park until the end of the season.
The former Northampton boss was drafted in as Harry Kewell’s replacement last Monday, becoming the League Two club’s eighth different manager since Abdallah Lemsagam took over as owner in 2018.
Following a two-and-ahalf-year spell with the Cobblers, the 57-year-old is now tasked with shoring up a defence with the worst record in the fourth tier, having conceded 56 goals ahead of yesterday’s clash with Cambridge.
And Curle is clear he is focused on gaining points immediately.
“I want to win games,” he said. “A lot of managers go into jobs with medium to long-term views, which I think is right once you get an understanding of the DNA of a club. But mine’s very much a short-term view. I’m not building a philosophy – I’m building a team within a squad that can get results very quickly.
“I’ve tried to work up as much knowledge as I can about the players. I didn’t know most of them, but Nicky Adams is someone I knew from my time at Carlisle and Northampton.”
Curle’s Oldham reign got off to a solid start with a midweek 0-0 draw at Port Vale, and 34-yearold midfielder Adams – who played 90 minutes at Vale Park – is confident he will impress.
He said: “Keith asked me a few questions about the club before joining, and I told him it’s a good group of lads and that everything’s set up well.
“I’ve known him for a long time. He’s a good man and he’s got a great record at this level, so we’ve just got to take everything on board.”
