DIMITRIS HAS HIS EYES ON PREMIER PRIZE...

- By Scott Hunt

NORWICH full-back Dimitris Giannoulis says the opportunity to help Norwich return to the Premier League was a massive factor in his decision to join on loan from PAOK.

The 25-year-old arrived from the Greek Super League outfit in January in a deal that could become permanent and has been a regular starter for the Carrow Road outfit.

Explaining his switch, Giannoulis said: “The potential to play in the Premier League was one of the biggest reasons, but I also believe that the Championship is a better league than the Greek Super League because there are so many good teams.

“In Greece there are five or six good teams and then some others that are not so good. I wanted to be here to be better, to play a more difficult style of football and then I can improve myself. “(Promotion) is a big target and everyone in the team wants to achieve that. It was my dream from a young age to play in the Premier League so we have to do it and I believe if we continue to be concentrated in each and every game we will do it.”

Greece international Giannoulis has had to adapt quickly to the demands of the Championship and admits the league presents different challenges to those faced in his homeland.

“It is totally different,” he said. “Here the league is more tough, it is more physical.

“In Greece we don’t play such a physical game, it is more about technique and quality, but here you have to be a machine to play.

“So, yes, it is a bit different, but I am adapting, and I am enjoying playing for Norwich.

“I have a lot of good things to give to the team and I hope by the end of the season I will be the player that Norwich want to buy.”

MATT Taylor believes striker Matt Jay is Exeter’s “go-to man” as they push for promotion.

The academy graduate, 25, is in contention to top the goalscoring charts after consistently delivering for the Grecians this season.

“That’s the first one MJ has put away from a free-kick for two-and-ahalf years,” Taylor said after their midweek win at Scunthorpe.

“He’s in great form at the moment. He could have had another couple as well because he gets himself into positions to get chances. He’s our go-to man when it comes to converting those.”

JOSH McEachran is convinced MK Dons will “have a great end to the season”.

The 28-year-old midfielder has settled in well, but results have been poor of late.

However, McEachran is confident an upturn in fortunes is just around the corner.

He said: “We need to keep going, believe in ourselves – we’ll have a great end to the season.”
