Power to the pupils
AN electrical rewire will take place at a school in Linwood during the summer holidays after a contract was given the green light.
A deal for the work at Our Lady of Peace Primary, in Erskinefauld Road, was approved by Renfrewshire Council’s finance, resources and customer services policy board.
The agreement, worth more than £533,000, will see A. Alexander & Son (Electrical) take on the project.
A council report stated: “This procurement exercise is for the appointment of a competent and experienced contractor to carry out an electrical rewire within Our Lady of Peace Primary School.
“The rewiring will include general electrical services rewire upgrades – renewal mains low voltage distribution, low voltage containments, small power, lighting, emergency lighting, external lighting, lighting controls, CCTV installation etc.”
Work is expected to begin in late June, with completion earmarked for mid-August, and there is not expected to be any disruption to pupils’ education, as the school will be unoccupied.
An evaluation of submissions identified that A. Alexander and Son (Electrical) was considered the most “economically advantageous” tender.
The costs will be met from the council’s capital lifecycle maintenance budget.
Community benefits were requested as part of the procurement process and form part of the agreement.
These include work experience placements for those aged 16 and over, as well as non-financial support for a community project or group.
The report added: “The contract will facilitate the rewire of Our Lady of Peace Primary School which will ensure that the council’s assets are upgraded to a proper standard and maintained in a manner that complies with statutory regulations.”
