Talented Wolves winger will add much-needed balance to Boro’s side,

-

MIDDLESBROUGH have completed the signing of wide man Ryan Giles, with the 22-year-old joining on loan from Wolves.

Giles becomes the second signing of the summer following Liam Roberts’ arrival earlier in the week.

Giles joins off the back of an impressive spell at Blackburn, with Chris Wilder hoping the left-sided player can add much-needed balance to Boro’s team.

He completed his medical at Rockliffe in the last 24 hours as Wilder was able to move quickly to strengthen a key area in his team.

The left-sided player impressed last season during loan spells at

Cardiff City and then Blackburn Rovers. In total for the two clubs, he made 31 appearances and recorded 10 assists last term.

And after Isaiah Jones provided Boro with plenty of attacking intent from the right-hand side of the pitch, Wilder identified Giles as the ideal balance to that on the lefthand side.

Too often, sides managed to limit Boro’s attack by taking Jones out of the game, with the alternatives on the left hand side of the pitch not providing quite the same outlet as Jones.

But Wilder sees Giles as someone who can thrive in the left wing-back role at Boro, given how much time he will spend in the attacking third.

Reacting to the move, Wilder said: “We’re delighted to bring Ryan in. There was a lot of interest in him and it’s great we’ve been able to bring him here.

“He’s a player we know a lot about, he’s young and he’s an exciting talent. He has plenty of experience already at this level and knows the league.

“I think we’re a good fit for Ryan and we’re really looking forward to working with him.”

A winger by trade, there will be defensive responsibilities that he will have to learn and get used to once the loan deal from Wolves is completed, but Wilder is confident that the exciting young player will adapt comfortably to his new role, much like Jones did last season.

Despite being 22, Giles has already played over 100 EFL games, with 73 of those coming in the Championship.

As well as loan spells at Cardiff and Blackburn, Giles has also enjoyed time on loan at Telford, Shrewsbury, Rotherham and Coventry.

Boro’s second signing of the summer, he will soon be joined by a third.
