New GP surgery ready to welcome patients
NUNTHORPE’S new, state-of-theart medical centre has opened its doors. The Borough Road and Nunthorpe Medical Group moved into the new building off Stokesley Road yesterday, after the increasing size of the patient list rendered the old practice premises at Nunthorpe shops inadequate.
The new facility has eight consulting rooms, two treatment rooms, a meeting room and space for staff training. The building has been designed to improve patient confidentiality within waiting areas.
The new development is less than 15 minutes’ walk from the old building. There are 30 car parking spaces including disabled spaces and cyclist bays and motorists have been warned to be extra careful when travelling along Stokesley Road as there will be an “increased number of pedestrians”.
Lisa Fox, practice manager, said: “Everybody at the practice is incredibly excited to move to our new, state-of-the-art medical centre and start welcoming patients.”
She added: “Thanks to the vital support of Simon Clarke MP as well as our local Clinical Commissioning Group, our patient forum, the local
community and the fantastic project management team and sub-contractors, we now have a new, fit for purpose building that not only gives us the extra space we need to provide the best possible care for our patients, it’s also much more accessible for everybody’s needs.
“It’s been an incredibly long journey for the practice to get to this point and it is fantastic to have finally reached a real landmark moment for all our staff and patients – we can’t wait to start working there.”
Simon Clarke, Conservative MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, said: “The increasing size of the patient list and plans for more housing in the south of Middlesbrough meant there was no option but for the Guisborough Road practice to move to a new, purpose-built facility. The new surgery building, on Stokesley Road, is now much more accessible for patients with mobility issues – something that was a real problem at the old practice.”
Cllr Mieka Smiles, Conservative councillor for Nunthorpe and Middlesbrough Deputy Mayor, said: “I know how hard so many people have worked to finally get this project over the line. It’s going to make life so much more pleasant for both patients and staff to have this wonderful facility to make their own and I am proud to have played my part.”
