Caribbean food joint to open in town

-

A rotisserie street food and cocktail bar is set to open its doors in Redcar’s Northern Quarter.

Cluck & Moo is from the same team as Marske’s popular VK&B, formerly The Vault. It’s the first restaurant of its kind in the town, serving up the food of the Caribbean – all based around a menu of delicious beef and chicken dishes.

The restaurant has taken over the former Italia restaurant on Millbank Terrace and has already been operating a busy takeaway business from its kitchen. The eatery is set to open its doors on Thursday.

A spokesperson for Cluck & Moo said: “We were already busy with our takeaways, we can’t wait to open the venue now. It looks beautiful – we’re excited but nervous.”

The new restaurant will be run by Riley Addison and head chef is Ellie Lawton. Fans of Cluck & Moo’s takeaways have said the new venue is “definitely one for the tick list”.

“Absolutely loved your Sunday lunch,” said one poster on social media, while another added: “Can’t clucking wait... hope you are ready for us.”

Cluck & Moo was brought to life thanks to a last-minute change of holiday plans for its owner. Arran Addison’s trip to Mexico was cancelled due to the pandemic, so the family booked a much-needed break in Jamaica instead. He loved the food of the Caribbean so much, he came straight home and started planning Cluck & Moo.

He previously told Teesside Live: “We went to Montego Bay. That totally changed the whole idea of what we were doing with the business...I was sat there eating Jerk chicken and drinking gin and thought ‘this is it’. While we’re not a Jamaican bistro, it did inspire me to change the concept.”

Arran came home, bought all the rotisserie equipment and started doing takeaways from the kitchen of the Redcar venue.
