Spence joy at ‘privilege’ of joining Tottenham

-

DJED Spence says it’s a “dream come true” to have joined Tottenham Hotspur after his move to the London club was finally confirmed.

Spence has signed a five-year deal and says it’s a “privilege” to join Spurs.

The former Boro wing-back says Tottenham fans should expect “excitement, skill and speed” as he prepares for his first season in the Premier League.

It’s been clear all summer that Spence was destined for Tottenham, with the 21-year-old making it clear Spurs was the move he wanted, and with Nottingham Forest, where the wing-back excelled last season, not making an effort for a permanent move.

Boro stood firm in negotiations and are understood to have received a large sum up-front, with the fee potentially rising to £20m.

After the move was finally sealed, Spence said: “To play in the Premier League and at a big club like Tottenham Hotspur is a dream come true.

“I’m just thankful I’m here and I have this opportunity. Everyone wants to play in the Premier League. For a big club, Champions League football and with some of the best players, it’s a privilege to be here.”

Reflecting on last term at the City Ground, Spence said: “Last year I won promotion with Nottingham Forest, it was a great season for me, stuff of dreams.”

He added: “I can’t wait to meet the players, staff and manager.

“I bring excitement, skill, speed, I want to excite the fans. I’m very chilled, humble, I dedicate my whole life to football.”

Just before the move was announced, Spence took to Twitter to post a message to Nottingham Forest. There was no mention of Boro.

He wrote: “Nottingham Forest, what a massive club, what a team & what special fans. We came from the bottom & made it all the way to the top. We turned dreams into reality and I can’t thank you all enough for the special journey we all shared together. Once a Red always a Red.”
