BOB Mortimer has announced the publication of his first novel set to hit the shelves later this year.

The Satsuma Complex is about a ‘lad and a lass’ and the Middlesbrough born comedian and TV presenter has announced it will be available in October.

The plot, as described by the book’s blurb, is about a nondescript legal assistant trying to trace a girl he met across South London in what has been described as a ‘brilliantly funny’ first novel.

Fans will know Bob, who grew up in Acklam, published his autobiography And Away last year to much acclaim.

The comedian, currently filming the fifth series of the incredibly popular TV show Gone Fishing with pal Paul Whitehouse, took to Twitter to announce the new book, revealing its title and a little bit of a teaser of what to expect in his usual style, of course.

“I’ve written a novel about a lad and a lass. Done some signed copies if that’s something you might like,” he wrote.

“There are still some signed copies of my new book ‘The Satsuma Complex’ available. It features an attic creeper, a real life train guy and plenty parsnip shaped skinny jeans so you might want to think around that (The audiobook is read by me.)”

Published by Simon & Schuster on October 27, the novel will also be available as an audiobook. Waterstones has described it as: “From the beloved comedian and author of the bestselling memoir And Away comes a debut novel rich in Mortimer’s unique brand of surreal whimsy, as nondescript legal assistant Gary seeks a girl he met by chance, through the estates and pie shops of South London.

“A page-turning story with a cast of unforgettable characters, The Satsuma Complex is the brilliantly funny first novel by bestselling author and comedian Bob Mortimer.”

Bob revealed the news on Twitter to the delight of his 1.1 million followers. Many replied to his tweet to say they’d ordered it and couldn’t wait. “Couldn’t resist, can’t wait,” said another. “Fan bloody tastic. Copy ordered. Love you Bob,” wrote another. “And Away is brilliant so no reason this won’t be,” replied another fan.
