Raising thousands in Nathan’s memory

-

A HEARTBROKEN mother has raised thousands for three children’s charities in memory of her young son who passed away earlier this year.

Nathan Tyreman was only two when he died on May 7. He had previously been diagnosed with interstitial lung disease – a rare condition that makes it hard for the lungs to get enough oxygen.

Following his death, mum Cheryl made it her mission to raise as much money as possible for her chosen charities – the Sick Children’s Trust, Child Lung Foundation and The Great North Children’s Hospital.

So far, Cheryl and her family and friends have raised £13,000, in part thanks to her fundraiser at the Southern Cross in Marton. The event, last Friday, had live performances from local musicians Flat Back Four and Emily Jane, as well as raffles. Cheryl’s fundraiser saw local businesses, organisations and individuals donate items.

With hundreds of tickets sold and thousands of pounds raised, Cheryl and her family could not be more grateful to those who pitched in to make the night just that bit more special.

She said: “Before the fundraiser, we had raised nine and a half thousand for the charities and on the night we must have raised around three grand, which is absolutely marvellous.

“This amount of money will really help these charities. The Child Lung Foundation has been really struggling since the pandemic and they do a lot of things you don’t think you’re going to need until you’re in that type of situation. They initially had £15,000 but they’re now down to five, they’re near enough wiped out bless them.”

Cheryl wants to continue to raise as much awareness about Interstitial Lung Disease as she possibly can, she added: “If a child you know has a high breathing rate, recurrent chest infections, failure to thrive, or abnormal chest shape, amongst others.

“Please do not hesitate to get them checked and checked again if you don’t feel you’re being listened to. Please don’t let anyone else lose a child like I’ve lost my precious son Nathan.”
