A TEESSIDE seaside resort has been named on Air BnB’s list of trending destinations for 2022.

Redcar comes in at number seven on the travel property website used by millions of people to find holiday homes and places to stay.

The ever-popular North Yorkshire resort of Scarborough, a long standing favourite with Teessiders, has also made the top 12 list published by Air BnB. Elsewhere in the North there are mentions for Whitley Bay on Tyneside and Newbiggin by the Sea in Northumberland.

The list has just been revealed and, says Air BnB, it highlights that some Brits are continuing to opt for staycations instead of heading abroad now that coronavirus restrictions have been largely lifted for overseas travel. Hornsea in east Yorkshire topped the list.

Amanda Cupples, general manager for Northern Europe at Airbnb, said: “We’re continuing to see the resurgence of the Great British seaside holiday with Brits seeking coastal resorts and in particular, lesser-known destinations in all corners of the country.

“Beyond providing British holidaymakers the opportunity to discover up-and-coming destinations across the UK this summer, Hosts on Airbnb are creating valuable income streams for themselves and their communities..”

The list has been released as schools break up for the summer. It highlights Brits are soaking up the sun on home soil and swapping farflung destinations for the pleasures of fish and chips, rock pooling and ice cream vans, says Air BnB.

Redcar came in seventh place, the highest in the North East, and Scarborough in 10th. The listing comes after a Redcar beach was also named in the The Sunday Times 50 Best Beaches Guide.

Coatham Beach, Redcar was singled out for its broad sands and dunes, which are a Site of Special Scientific Interest and the investment that is going in to the town.
