Win keeps Marton’s survival hopes alive

IN the Darlington Building Society NYSD ECB Premier League, the weather played some part in the results - but in the crucial game at the bottom Stokesley batted first against Marton and made 23.

Jonny Weighell scored 49 as did Andrew Weighell, while Harry Harding hit a crucial 42.

Chanluke Van Niewenhuiz­en claimed 4-42 and Rahul Dalal 3-44.

The visitors made a cautious start as they chased a revised target of 210 from 50 overs but Lee Hodgson then scored 102 not out, from 73 balls, which included nine fours and five sixes, alongside Dalal who made a useful (52no).

They put on 116 runs for the third wicket to claim victory and keep alive their survival chances on 211-2.

League-leaders Richmondsh­ire took another winning step to retaining their title crown as they made 262-6 against Billingham Synthonia - thanks to Gary Pratt (79no) and Sam Winter (62).

Synners then had JP Meade scoring 45 but Shafiqulla­h Ghafari with 4-20 and Tom Brooks 4-22 bowled them all out for 107 to win the game by 124 runs.

Middlesbro­ugh batted first at home to Great Ayton and James Gaudie struck 40, Matthew Bell 50 and Sam Gaudie 65 as they totalled 252-6. Joe Marsay was the pick of the bowling with 4-77.

Matthew Maloy then took three early wicket, but Phil Holdsworth stopped the rot with 66.

However, James Lowe claimed 6-26 as Ayton were out for 117.

Saltburn were 78 -5 at one stage against Stockton but Vishant More hit an impressive 106 from 123 balls, which included 15 fours, and Jacob Midgely added 36 and they ended their innings on 211 all out.

The hosts then lost early wickets, as Jack Almond produced 5-31. Lewis Beaumont held firm for 35, but they were all out for 125, with Tom Scriven taking 4-36.

Barnard Castle piled the runs up at home to Thornaby as Ian Swinburn made 84 and Samarth Seth 79 and they ended up with 337-7, while Harvey Spaxman claimed 4-65 with the ball.

The visitors then were set 241 to win and Lewis Harper made 47, Spaxman 35 and then Imran Qureshi bashed 35 from 16 balls.

However, James Bousfield then claimed 3-48 and they finished on 218-8 to give Barney the points on the D/L method.

Darlington against Hartlepool was washed out by rain.
