Festival-goers spoilt for choice

YESTERDAY saw another day of worldclass performanc­es, family fun and thrilling displays on Teeesside.

The last day of the 35th Stockton Internatio­nal Riverside Festival (SIRF) celebrated some of the best artists and performers from across the world. SIRF kicked off on Thursday and has been jam-packed with amazing shows – from the magical and quirky performanc­es, stunning visual experience­s, daring dance and spectacula­r circus.

Yesterday, the attraction­s included a colourful procession which saw hundreds of young people, adults, community members, musicians and street performers dance and sing their way along Stockton High Street in a sea of colour and music. The vibrant procession made its way through the town to the Riverside where celebratio­ns continued throughout the day with live music, dance, family entertainm­ent.

Prior to the festival Cllr Steve Nelson, Stockton Council’s cabinet member for health, leisure and culture, said: “It just wouldn’t be summer without SIRF.

“With over 150 performanc­es throughout to entertain, intrigue and excite residents and visitors, there really is something for everybody over the four days of this free major event. This year’s SIRF is going to be truly memorable, with a wide variety of street theatre, dance, music, digital arts and circus, as well as breath-taking aerial acrobatics, to make your SIRF experience something special.”

SIRF is organised by Stockton Council in a year-round programme of planning, technical expertise, profession­al collaborat­ion.
