Hull keen to fend off Boro interest and keep Greaves
SHOTA Arveladze says Hull City are happy to spend “time and money” ensuring they fend off transfer interest and keep Boro target Jacob Greaves at the club this summer.
Greaves is one of the defenders on Boro’s wishlist this summer and reports claim a bid from Teesside was turned down earlier this month. Greaves has played every minute of the first two games of the season for City and the Tigers are continuing in new contract negotiations with the defender’s representatives.
“We’re pleased (with his performances) and we all want him to stay,” the Georgian boss told Hull Live. “We will spend some time and money to keep him here.
“He does well in his training sessions. He’s a bright and diligent boy for his age, and he understands the clubs are talking about him. If he loses focus on his job then it will damage only him, and nobody else. It will only affect his performance.
“I believe the people around him, especially his father says the same: ‘These are your qualities, this is something you love to do well so continue to do it well and the rest will follow’.”
Boro boss Chris Wilder has made no secret of the fact he wants a left-footed central defender before the month is out, with Greaves a leading target. Arveladze hasn’t discussed transfers with the defender, instead leaving the matter to vice-chairman Tan Kesler and owner Acun Ilicali.
Arveladze said: “We’re not talking too much about this subject, I just look at his performance. If I would see he’s slipping then I would notice and I would talk to him, but I see him fully concentrated.”
