Spotlight on local treasures
TV STARS Robson Green and Mark Benton have been spotted filming at one of our area’s best loved beach spots. The pals, plus a camera crew, were seen in Saltburn and Robson took to his social media feed at the weekend to explain why.
The star of Soldier, Soldier and Grantchester told his 40k followers on Instagram the duo are making a BBC series that showcases the North East. Teesside’s hidden gems will feature in it said the actor, who went on to describe our part of the world as ‘beautiful.’
Together with Mark, who grew up in Eston, he posted pictures of them walking along the sands at Saltburn near the pier eating ice creams and standing on the top prom near Saltburn’s famous cliff tramway.
Robson also posted pictures of them wearing wet suits and doing a bit of open water swimming at a location that was not identified.
“Had the best week filming with Mark Benton on an episode of our new BBC series that showcases the North East. Mark showed me around the roads less travelled in Teesside as we discovered the hidden gems of this beautiful area. An incredibly joyous and entertaining few days with someone who is still very proud to call this part of the world home.”
They starred together in the TV series Northern Lights about a pair of competitive brothers. Mark is a former pupil of Sarah Metcalfe School in Eston.
He is a familiar face on our TV screens, in shows such as the BBC’s Shakespeare & Hathaway and Strictly Come Dancing.
They’re not the only stars to be spotted. Last month, Jonathan Ross was pictured enjoying a beer in Whitby and Brenda Blethyn, who plays DCI Vera Stanhope in the show Vera, was seen filming at Hartlepool train station.
