Record orders for engineering firm

EIGHT NEW JOBS AND PLANS TO RECRUIT MORE

NEW contract wins have paved the way for job creation and investment at a long-established Teesside engineering firm.

Tees Components says that £1.75m of new contracts in the second quarter of this year have grown its order book to a record £3m – prompting investment in new plant and equipment at its Skelton operation. The family-run business has created an initial eight jobs thanks to the new work – almost half of which will be exported – and plans to recruit more next year on the back of its investment.

Orders include a £750,000 contract within the marine defence industry and £500,000 in the nuclear installation space. The firm – which celebrates its 60th anniversary next year – has also landed “large” contracts for renewable energy operators, including wind and hydro power.

And following Tees Components’ supplying of ship thrusters to the RRS Sir David Attenborough in 2020, its Tees White Gill division has secured a contract to provide parts for a pair of oceanographic ships operated by the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration. The vessels, Oceanographer and Discoverer, will support a wide variety of missions, ranging from general oceanographic research and exploration to marine life, climate and ocean ecosystem studies.

Sharon Lane, managing director of Tees Components, said: “I’m delighted to see the hard work pay off for our team, and to see our clients show this confidence in us. More than anything we are excited to embark on these contracts – they are a brilliant blend of projects.

“We have fascinating new products which we’re excited about, we have critical British infrastructure projects, and also we’re involved in essential climate research work.

“We are so fortunate to be able to play our part – what we do genuinely matters – and that is why we enjoy what we do.”

She added: “There is huge variety in the work we are undertaking. We will be heavily involved in manufacturing for the new small modular reactors, the rapid build of which is essential for our national power resilience. We will also continue to manufacture for offshore wind, hydro, and tidal power installations and play our part in strengthening the UK’s supplies.”

This year Tees Components was nominated as a Department for International Trade Northern Powerhouse Export Champion in recognition of its sales to markets including the US, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Europe and more recently, Iceland.
