LIAM ROBERTS - 6

Was having a really solid debut and smartly saved everything he needed to right until the last moment when he spilt one straight into Josh Benson’s path for the Barnsley sub to fire home the winner.

PADDY MCNAIR - 7

Looked at home on the right of the back three. Can see why Wilder wants to switch him to that side this season because in possession it helps him get involved with the attack more.

ANFERNEE DIJKSTEEL - 7

Like Fry, he switched around the back three a lot but was generally comfortable with his defensive work as Boro controlled throughout.

DAEL FRY - 7

One or two shaky looking passes as he shakes the rust off, but otherwise solid throughout while tried in all three centre-back roles. One really good run out from the back and ball through to Forss.

TOMMY SMITH - 7

Bright display at right wing-back. Got forward well but didn’t have much to pick out in the penalty area.

HAYDEN HACKNEY - 6

Without shining, Hackney looked really calm and composed in the Jonny Howson role.

JOE GIBSON - 7

Really bright performance in the centre of midfield from the young man. Some really good passes and runs with the ball, linking well with Smith and McNair down the right.

CAOLAN BOYD-MUNCE - 6

Recycled the ball well without looking spectacular. Would benefit from a loan to play regularly and find some rhythm.

MARC BOLA - 6

Tried to get forward from the left but didn’t provide enough spark or quality to unlock door for his side.

DUNCAN WATMORE - 6

Work ethic as you would expect, but squandered a very early chance when played in behind.

SONNY FINCH - 6

Lively start from the debutant. Only 17, he struggled physically, but used his pace and worked hard.

SUBSTITUTIONS BRYANT BILONGO - 6

For McNair, 59’. Young debutant. One or two nervy passes but otherwise solid.

CHUBA AKPOM - 7

For Watmore, 59. Held the ball up really well and caused problems again after coming on.

MARCUS FORSS - 6

For Finch, 59’. Wanted too many touches when given a great opportunity to break by Fry.

DANIEL DODDS - 7

For Bola, 73’, A couple of positive driving runs from the young rightsided defender and one important late tackle too.

ISAAC FLETCHER

For Gibson, 77
