Family’s appeal to raise money for hospice after sunflower thefts

-

JUST days after being installed along Saltburn Pier, 15 of Teesside’s Hospice’s hand-crafted sunflowers in dedication to people loved and lost were defaced, damaged and stolen by heartless vandals.

But it was more than just the flowers stolen from the pier, with the opportunity to mourn and pay tribute to loved ones taken away from the families.

The loss of the sunflowers has also affected more than the 15 families – it has affected the hospice too.

The sunflowers must be replaced adding additional costs to the appeal. And Karen

Karen and her family have set up a JustGiving page with the hope it will raise the money needed by Teesside Hospice.

Karen said: “I’m doing this because my family had bought a sunflower for our wonderful mother, who very sadly died in the hospice last November.

“Our family will be forever grateful for the kindness, care and respect shown to both our mother and family.

“Joan was in there less than 24 hours but it meant that as a family, we could say goodbye with her together and with dignity.”

Memories appeal to raise vital funds to keep their doors open.

The sunflowers contained dedications to the people across Teesside who have lost loved ones over the years, who were cared for by Teesside Hospice.

The sunflowers cost £30.54 each – the same price as one hour specialist nurse care.

Karen said: “With your help, let’s raise money in recognition of those fifteen stolen or damaged. Any amount is greatly welcomed.”
