Heartbeat fans thrilled nostalgic rally is in village
VISITORS to North Yorkshire’s Heartbeat village will gather for a “nostalgic” annual vehicle rally this weekend.
Fans of the 1960s police drama will be thrilled to find out Heartbeat stars Patricia Penrose and David Lonsdale will be at the event along with another show favourite, Vanessa Hehir, who played the sparky mechanic Rosie Cartwright for six years.
The rally will be this Saturday and Sunday, July 1 and 2, in Goathland, near Whitby, which is where most of the filming for the much-loved series took place.
The Yorkshire countryside, fondly known as ‘Heartbeat country’, was the regular backdrop to the series and you would often see cars driving around the roads through the moors.
Many of these vintage cars and vehicles will be on display throughout the weekend, and will be situated on the green in front of the Aidensfield Stores, which also featured in Heartbeat and is considered to be the most photographed village store in Britain.
Huge fan of the show and owner of Aidensfield Stores, Andrew Fiddler, said: “We have very fond memories of when the Heartbeat cast and production team came to film the series in Goathland and many of the stars of the show became our lifelong friends. We are delighted that the rally continues to grow and the memory of the series lives on.
“I am sure the weekend will be nostalgic and filled with trips down memory lane for a lot of our visitors.”
Patricia, who played the glamorous Gina Ward, David, who played the funny and loveable David Stockwell, and Vanessa will be signing 2024 Heartbeat calendars at the Aidensfield stores throughout the weekend.
The calendars will be sold in aid of Cancer Research UK.
