Sadly, with the ‘reopening’ of the
countryside, scenes of garbage
carnage have flooded social media.
We rounded up some of these
examples into a web article and asked
you to get in touch if you had noticed
littering like this on your local rambles.
Here are just a few of your many
responses...
Paul Spear: “This is just a small amount
of the litter that I picked out of the
River Severn on a short paddle shortly
after lockdown was relaxed [pictured
above right]. The amount of litter along
the banks of the Severn (Ironbridge) is
ridiculous and all the tell-tale signs of
BBQs in riverside fields is just scary.”
Will Rogers: “In Cambridge a young
cow has died after eating a plastic bag.
The meadows by the river are regularly
trashed, and the nature reserves too.
I can’t understand how someone
can carry in a heavy bag full of food
and drink, but can’t carry home a
lightweight bag of rubbish.”
Julie Coldwell: “Elterwater... [pictured

Tarn, Coniston and likely more...”
Emily Stone: “I am seeing this happening
everywhere, and it makes me so angry.
But it's got me thinking that instead
of despairing, could we do something
about this? Perhaps a campaign to
encourage people to speak – calmly –
to litterers, to raise awareness beyond
our normal communities.”
