The Fire Moth System stove comes with a 2.4 litre pot with a heat exchanger for fuel efficiency and fast boil times. The pot fits into a combined windshield/pot support to form a neat windproof unit. The burner sits in the base of the support. The burner and windshield can be used with other pots as long as they’re wider than 14.5cm, which would be useful for solo use when a smaller pot is all that’s needed. Together the burner and windshield weigh 217 grams. The burner can’t be used separately from the windshield.

The pot is made from hard anodised alloy and has a thermal sleeve for insulation plus a fold-out handle. The width is greater than the height (18x10cm), which is good for fast boiling – the wide base heats quickly – and for cooking as it’s easy to stir food. The lid is transparent Tritan plastic and has drain/steam holes. The width of the pot support and the low profile of the burner means the unit is very stable even with such a big pot.

The Fire Moth is best suited to cooking for two or more due to the pot size – I’ve used it solo and have never more than half-filled the pot. It is efficient and boils water extremely fast. There’s a pre-heat tube so the canister can be inverted in freezing conditions to improve efficiency. The inverted canister needs propping up – tent pegs are good for this – and the control valve is on the ground and a little awkward to use but this does work better in the cold.

For cooking for two or more this is a good unit, especially if you haven’t already got a pot. It’s quite light for the size, easy to use, and reasonably compact for carrying.
