James Carron finds solitude on a remote hill

-

IF A SUMMIT is all you crave, Blath Bhalg is one of those hills you can climb direct from the roadside in a little over an hour; for many who walk this way it is simply a quick tick on their list of Grahams before they move on to the next one. This approach might slake the desire for conquest and completion, but it risks missing out on all the other delights to be found in this, one of the more remote and less frequented corners of Highland Perthshire.

Blath Bhalg rises above Glen Brerachan, lonely upland country where isolated farms, cottages and lodges are dotted along the winding road that runs north through Strathardle before swinging west
