Kiltwalk gains help after losing support
ENTREPRENEUR and philanthropist Sir Tom Hunter is to help revamp struggling charity Kiltwalk.
Accusations of financial mismanagement led to a number of other charities ending their relationship with the Kiltwalk, the organisers of a number of events throughout Scotland.
The Kiltwalk, which has in the past three years raised more than £ 4.7 million for Scottish children’s charities, has moved to its next stage of development, Sir Tom said.
The current trustees are to pass the continued development of the charity to a new Board of Trustees.
The new board has also secured longterm funding and support from The Hunter Foundation.
Its chairman Sir Tom said: “The Kiltwalk is a fantastic concept for raising much needed funds for Scotland’s children’s charities and has our absolute support.
“We intend over the next couple of months to redefine and improve the model, building on the foundations already in place, to maximise returns for charities and turbocharge Scotland’s Kiltwalkers for 2016.”
Michael Ure, outgoing chairman of The Kiltwalk, said: “The retiring Board of Trustees leave safe in the knowledge that after what has been a turbulent period, we are delighted to have secured the future of The Kiltwalk through the involvement of Sir Tom Hunter and the Hunter Foundation.”
Kiltwalk’s most recent accounts showed an income of just over £1.6m, with £780,000 spent. The sum for charity was £776,000.
