Body of young coach is found in marina
THE body of a children’s football coach has been found at a marina almost a month after he vanished on a Christmas night out.
Police confirmed that a body found on Friday in Swansea Marina was that of Jordan Miers. Mr Miers, 21, was reportedly last seen on CCTV cameras walking in the car park of a Toys R Us store. He did not return home following the evening out.
Coastguards and fire crews searched a stretch of the River Tawe in the Welsh city in the hunt to find him.
He was later seen by a bridge, heading for the footpath along the river.
Officers checked possible routes Mr Miers may have taken to reach his home as well as the river and its banks.
A South Wales Police spokesman said: “We can confirm the body found in Swansea Marina has been formally identified as missing man Jordan Miers.”
Mr Miers had attended a local school and graduated from University of Wales Trinity St David only last year. He was well known as a popular youth coach with Talycopa AFC in a suburb of Swansea. His former headteacher had described him as a polite, well-mannered man.
Speaking before the body was identified, Simon Davies said: “It’s just devastating for the family. Our thoughts are with Jordan and the family.”
A South Wales Police spokesman said: “The body recovered from Swansea Marina has now been formally identified as that of 21-year-old Jordan Miers. Our thoughts are with his family. They continue to be supported and updated.”
