Haggis is UK’s least favourite regional dish as Yorkshire pudding triumphs

-

IT IS one of Scotland’s most popular dishes but a new survey has revealed haggis is not a favourite with foodies across the UK.

The traditional Scottish delicacy, which is made of sheep’s pluck, was named the nation’s least popular regional dish in a study by Gourmet Society, with 15 per cent of those polled saying it was their least favourite. Jellied eels were second.

However, haggis came out on top among Scots, with 37 per cent of Glaswegians saying it was a firm favourite.

The survey, which aimed to find the UK’s best regional dish, revealed that the

is Yorkshire nation’s favourite puddings.

Cornish pasties, Devon cream tea, Bakewell tart and Cheddar cheese were also named in the top five.

The survey, which asked 1,009 UK residents for their views on regional meals, also revealed that many people were loyal to their local dishes, with 49 per cent of people from Yorkshire voting for Yorkshire puddings.

Matt Turner, CEO of Gourmet Society, said: “Brits are spoilt for choice when it comes to trying regional dishes, so it’s nice to see plenty of regions backing their local dish.

“There is certainly nothing better than coming back to Yorkshire to enjoy a proper Yorkshire pudding with a Sunday Roast. We can understand why it has been voted Britain’s favourite.”
