Fyvie’s comments come back to bite

- NICK RODGER

DAVID McCracken, the Falkirk defender, believes Fraser Fyvie needs to choose his words more carefully after the Hibernian player’s pre-match comments ahead of Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw at Easter Road clearly stirred the spirited Bairns.

During a captivating contest in Leith, Falkirk, who were down to 10-men, grabbed a share of the spoils as they hauled themselves back from 2-0 down with two goals in the last three minutes.

Ahead of the encounter, Fyvie, the Hibernian midfielder, challenged Falkirk to demonstrate that they had “big-game players”.

McCracken, whose 87th-minute header sparked the Falkirk salvage operation, said: “Somebody maybe needs to take him aside and teach him about comments. It’s going to get them up for the game. Those things make teams want to prove people wrong. It’s down to them and I’m not bothered what they say or what they do. For them, that game should have been sealed in terms of us being down to 10 men and them 2-0 up. We showed we can come back.”

McCracken enjoyed an eventful evening in the capital. His mistake gifted Jason Cummings an opener early on and he also conceded the penalty from which Cummings made it 2-0 with 10 minutes left.

“The second half was a bit crazy with the penalty and the sending off but the boys showed great character and we thought if we got one then we would get another,” added the 34-year-old. “We have shown that what we might lack in spending power we make up for in togetherness.”

Falkirk remain six points clear of Hibernian in second place, but have played two games more.

McCracken said: “Throughout the season it’s kind of been about Rangers and Hibs. That’s been perfect for us. Hibs have games coming up but they still have to win. I’d rather be in our position.”
