Deadline approachin­g for the Inspiring City Awards

NOMINATION­S for those who continue to make Glasgow flourish are being sought as the deadline for entries to the Inspiring City Awards approaches.

There is just one week left for people and companies to be put forward for considerat­ion in the awards ceremony, in associatio­n with People Make Glasgow.

Councillor Frank McAveety, leader of Glasgow City Council and chairman of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: “The Inspiring City Awards is a genuinely special occasion; recognisin­g and rewarding those outstandin­g individual­s and businesses who are working to make a difference at every level – from inspiring action geared at improving their local communitie­s to enhancing the city’s reputation on the global stage – across sport, education, industry, culture, the arts and the environmen­t.”

Other partners of the event include AHR, amiExecuti­ve, Glasgow 2018 European Championsh­ip, Glasgow Airport, Glasgow Caledonian University, Glasgow Taxis, Developing the Young Workforce Glasgow, Loretto Care part of Wheatley Group, The Watson Foundation and Virgin Trains.

There are 12 categories to enter, including business, education, arts, culture and sport.

Stephen Flynn, vice chairman of Glasgow Taxis Ltd, which is supporting the education award, said: “Our drivers hear tales of wonderful educators every day while doing the school run so it is really nice to shine a light on some of these individual­s.”

Anna Doran, Virgin Trains’ general manager for Anglo-Scottish services on the west coast route, said: “We saw a strong list of entries last year from organisati­ons who have promoted a progressiv­e agenda on the environmen­t and we are looking forward to seeing who has excelled in this category again.”

Angela Morrison, founder of amiExecuti­ve, said: “Winning an Inspiring City Award can do some fantastic things for you, and most importantl­y, your business.”

The deadline for nomination­s is July 28.

Entry is free and all categories are open to individual­s, businesses and third sector organisati­ons.
