CANOEING Sprint canoeist Angela Hannah has been given a last-minute call-up for the Olympics after one of her Romanian rivals was handed a doping ban, writes Mark Woods. The 30-year-old, who has a Scottish father, will compete in the K2 500m at her second Games along with English partner Lani Belcher.
The pair finished one place outside automatic qualification at last year’s world championships – and again at this year’s Europeans. But a decision by the International Canoeing Federation has provided a late reprieve. HOCKEY Scotland will meet Germany, Ireland and England in the pool stages of the 2017 Women’s European Championships in Amsterdam, writes Craig Madden. The HIR event provides a rare opportunity for rowers to represent their home nations and to compete against England, Ireland and Wales. TENNIS Dan Evans advanced to the last 16oftheCitiOpenin Washington after a straight-sets victory over 12th seed Grigor Dimitrov. The British No.4 will meet Lukas Lacko or Jack Sock for a place in the quarterfinals after the 6-4, 6-4 win.
