CANOEING Sprint canoeist Angela Hannah has been given a last-minute call-up for the Olympics after one of her Romanian rivals was handed a doping ban, writes Mark Woods. The 30-year-old, who has a Scottish father, will compete in the K2 500m at her second Games along with English partner Lani Belcher.

The pair finished one place outside automatic qualificat­ion at last year’s world championsh­ips – and again at this year’s Europeans. But a decision by the Internatio­nal Canoeing Federation has provided a late reprieve. HOCKEY Scotland will meet Germany, Ireland and England in the pool stages of the 2017 Women’s European Championsh­ips in Amsterdam, writes Craig Madden. Gordon Shepherd, Scotland`s head coach, said: “It was always going to be a tough draw, but we have shown in the past that we can compete against all three sides and I see no reason why that won’t be the case next summer.” ROWING Scottish Rowing has named a team of 67 athletes to compete in the Home Internatio­nal Regatta (HIR), the competitio­n between four nations at Cardiff this Saturday (July 23), writes Rob Eyton-Jones. The HIR event provides a rare opportunit­y for rowers to represent their home nations and to compete against England, Ireland and Wales. TENNIS Dan Evans advanced to the last 16oftheCit­iOpenin Washington after a straight-sets victory over 12th seed Grigor Dimitrov. The British No.4 will meet Lukas Lacko or Jack Sock for a place in the quarterfin­als after the 6-4, 6-4 win.
