FITNESS fanatics and even those just looking to be pampered are set to benefit from a £20 million investment in Scotland by health club group David Lloyd Leisure.

Almost half the investment (£9.9 million) is being spent on a new centre at Rouken Glen in East Renfrewshire, which will open next month.

Elsewhere, the group has spent £4 million on refurbishing its Aberdeen club, £800,000 on Dundee, £1.6 million on Edinburgh Corstorphine, £630,000 on Edinburgh Newhaven Harbour, £750,000 on Glasgow West End and £9.9 million on their latest state-oftheart new-build at leafy Rouken Glen.

And it’s not just its members who are seeing an improvement in health – it is also getting the economy into better shape, creating around 420 permanent jobs, plus a further 280 seasonal and self-employed jobs, as many of their fitness and sports team chose to work on a self-employed basis.

The company said most of the staff involved in the build of the Rouken Glen club are from the Glasgow area.

The facilities at the clubs also focus on Scotland, with the DLicious cafe bars featuring local ingredients and specialities based on member feedback and demand.

Ross Blackadder, regional manager for Scotland, said: “Our success in Scotland is down to providing customers with what they need to enjoy their time with us, from creche facilities which allow parents much needed me-time to get fit and healthy to personal trainers who can create bespoke workout programmes to suit individual requirements.”

David Lloyd opened its first Scottish club in Renfrew 23 years ago.
