‘Inspirational’ shortlist unveiled for Society Awards
AN imaginative range of entries for education initiative of the year is one of the highlights of the 2016 Herald Society Awards.
A college link-up with India, to exchange traditional skills, a scheme to help teenage mothers stay in secondary education, an innovative school meals app, mentoring work with kids in care and a project to help struggling pupils in partnership with the armed forces were shortlisted by our judges.
With a huge number of entries, it was tough for judges to narrow down a shortlist for the awards, which are presented in association with Social Work Scotland.
In its ninth year, the event gives an inspiring indication of the scale, innovation, and results achieved in Scotland’s public and third sectors.
Jane Devine, business manager of Social Work Scotland, title sponsor and supporting The Herald Society Worker of the Year category, said: “This year’s finalists are a great mix of personal achievement and organisational determination. There are great stories in here we are delighted to share.”
Ian Welsh, chief executive at Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland, which is supporting The Herald Society Team of the Year category, said: “These finalists highlight a range of the inspirational people and organisations that play such an important part in Scottish society. We are delighted to be supporting these awards.”
Eamonn Connolly, director at evh, which is supporting the Unsung Hero category, said: “So now we know the finalists, and we can’t wait to hear more about them and all the good work they are doing. It will be very difficult to pick the winner, though.”
Andy Sinclair, head of legacy at the Scottish Government, which is supporting the Legacy 2014 category, said: “Congratulations to all of the finalists in the Legacy category.
“All the finalists should be commended and recognised for continuing to go the extra mile to make Games Legacy a reality.
“Even though the fantastic Commonwealth Games in Glasgow took place more than two-and-a-half years ago, these people continue to make a tangible, positive difference to their communities.”
Vincent McKay, dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences – GCU, which is supporting the Health and Social Care Integration category, said: “This award will recognise the best examples of innovation and effectiveness in meeting the Government’s health and social care integration agenda.”
The prize-giving will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow on Wednesday, November 2. To attend the event, visit www.herald-events.com/ societyawards where you can book your place now. For more information, please contact Cheryl Risk on 0141 302 7410 or cheryl.risk@ heraldandtimes.co.uk .
