Concerns grow over missing French student

-

A FRENCH student who has been missing in Edinburgh for two nights may have headed to a bitterly cold park and taken his top off.

The new lead in the search for Antoine Maury, 21, came after he vanished at about 11pm on Monday in the city’s Milton Road West.

Someone reported seeing a man topless at around this time near the Duddingston Village area of Holyrood Park, which is a few hundred yards from the road.

Taking clothes off in extreme cold is a sign of hypothermia and known as ‘paradoxical undressing’ as the body’s nerves react to the extreme cold.

Officers spent yesterday searching the area with the assistance of police dogs, and Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue and Borders Search and Rescue Unit.

Mr Maury is white, around 6ft tall, of medium build, with short brown hair, a beard and a fair complexion. He has a tattoo of a bleeding hand on his forearm.

He was last seen wearing a brown/green bomber jacket with dark chinos and a white beanie hat.

He is thought to have been wearing black and white Vans trainers.

Inspector Alan Carson said: “Antoine has now been missing for a significant amount of time and we are very concerned.

“He is not familiar with the Edinburgh area and could easily have become disorientated and lost.

“I would also urge members of the public living in the Duddingston Village area to assist our search by checking their gardens and outhouse.”

He called on anyone who has seen Antoine or recognises his description to contact police on 101.
