RBS finance deal helps to put NWH on buying trail

CONSTRUCTI­ON and waste services firm NWH Group is planning further acquisitio­ns after it secured a £7 million finance facility from RBS.

Last year Dalkeith-based NWH acquired the business and assets of DJ Laing’s waste management operations in Dundee for an undisclose­d sum.

Since making that acquisitio­n, NWH’s business has grown significan­tly, with the company projecting turnover to rise by almost 30 per cent to £28m in the year ending September 30 2016.

NWH managing director Mark Williams, said that following the purchase of DJ Laing, the company has found itself on a “very stable financial footing”.

He added: “We see opportunit­ies on the back of recent environmen­tal legislatio­n to grow both organicall­y and through further acquisitio­ns. We are currently looking at a number of potential companies which complement our existing lines of business.”

The company was founded in 1953 as a haulage firm for local farmers, before shifting focus towards waste management and constructi­on services, becoming one of the industry’s market leaders in Scotland.

The company now employs about 240 people at its Midlothian head office and across three additional sites in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee.

NWH has been a customer of RBS since 1967 and recently stuck with the beleaguere­d group after putting its banking out to tender.

David McIntosh, relationsh­ip director at RBS said: “NWH has successful­ly traded and diversifie­d its operations over six decades. The current financial performanc­e underlines the strength of the existing management team and its plans.”
