Still Game star fined £800 for swearing at barmaid

STILL Game star Ford Kiernan has been fined £800 for shouting and swearing at a barmaid.

The writer, presenter and comedian who plays Jack Jarvis in the BBC Scotland sitcom admitted at Glasgow Sheriff Court to a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards the woman on August 1 last year.

The 55-year-old actor, of Kelvinside, Glasgow, had also been accused of making offensive sexual remarks towards her during the incident at the Shilling Brewery Company in Glasgow.

However, his not guilty plea to making “obscene and degrading” remarks to her was accepted by the Crown.

The case had been due to call yesterday or a pre-trial hearing.

But, Kiernan’s defence team and prosecutors arranged for an “accelerated” hearing, allowing the case to call 24 hours earlier.

Kiernan admitted the lesser of the two charges and continued to plead not guilty to the alleged “obscene and degrading” comments.

These pleas were accepted and Sheriff Joan Kerr fined the actor.

In 2005, Kiernan was fined £3,500 for assaulting a taxi driver in a road-rage incident.

He hit the man and dragged him from a car following a heated row in a supermarket car park in Anniesland.

The court heard the cab driver had asked Kiernan if he thought he was “The Big Man” from Chewin’ the Fat, the series he starred in between 1999 and 2002.

Speaking after that incident, Kiernan said he had “probably said enough about this”, before adding: “Let’s just say I don’t want to see another courtroom for a while.’
