Two pupils reported after BB gun ‘fired at teacher’
TWO pupils have been reported to a children’s panel after a teacher was allegedly shot with a BB gun in a school corridor.
The incident happened at Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh on Monday and the teacher was not seriously injured.
Two boys, aged 13 and 15, have been referred to the Early and Effective Interventions Co-ordinator –a process designed to find “the most appropriate intervention to improve outcomes for children and young people, whilst reducing the likelihood of them reoffending”.
A council spokeswoman said the incident had been “thoroughly investigated” and disciplinary action taken against those involved.
She added: “We have hard-working staff and pupils who are together achieving often award-winning success.
“Their wellbeing is paramount and we take any action required to ensure this.”
The school is said to have more than 1,300 pupils.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Two male pupils, aged 13 and 15, are the subject of a report to the Early and Effective Interventions Co-ordinator in connection with the incident.”
The chair of the school’s parent council has described the incident as “isolated” and that it would continue to work with the school and the parent forum to highlight where standards of pupil behaviour could be improved.
Last week it emerged the headteacher Geoff Urie is to take early retirement at the end of the current academic year.
He has been criticised over a controversial new curriculum blamed for low attainment among some of his pupils.
