his way to join his ship in Portsmouth when he got the call to say doctors might have to perform a caesarean section.

He rushed across the UK and made it to the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital in Glasgow with just 15 minutes to spare before the babies were born on March 20.

Emelia weighed just 2.05lbs and Elliot weighed 2.03lbs when they were delivered, and they needed blood transfusions and respiratory support. They also suffered from sepsis and Elliot needed eye surgery and a hernia repair.

The twins spent a total of 107 days in the hospital before going home to Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, where they have gone from strength to strength.

Mrs Goodall said: “We just feel so lucky to be home with the twins. There will still be lots of ongoing care and treatment but we feel so blessed to be where we are now. I can’t praise the staff highly enough.”

Mrs Goodall said the staff had been “amazing”, particularly in the early days when she was unable to hold the twins together until they were three-weeks-old.

She said: Not everyone is as lucky as us and I know my twins are only here today because of the prompt and fabulous care we all received.”
