Hodgson insists Vardy has earned wedding leave ahead of friendly

-

ROY HODGSON is giving Jamie Vardy time off from England’s Euro 2016 preparations because the Barclays Premier League top-scorer is due to get married on Wednesday.

The Leicester City hitman scored in England’s 2-1 victory over Turkey at the Etihad Stadium last night after Harry Kane’s early opener was cancelled out by Hakan Calhanoglu.

Tottenham striker Kane had missed a penalty-kick but his strike partner saved his blushes with a close-range finish inside the final 10 minutes.

And manager Hodgson revealed after the match how the striker would be missing the friendly against Australia next Friday at the Stadium of Light.

“Vardy won’t be involved because he is getting married on Wednesday.

“That, you could say, is unfortunate but you must bear in mind last year his wedding was planned in June and I called him up and he cancelled his wedding.

“I think he deserves that possibility to get married here.”

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Manchester United starlet Marcus Radford will join up with the squad today after impressing in the FA Cup Final win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The striker was after receiving a knock but Hodgson is hopeful he will make a speedy recovery.

Hodgson said: “We believe it is not a serious injury but he obviously took a nasty knock and we’ll have to wait and see tomorrow how he turns up.”
