1997 Jimmy Hill stepped down as Fulham chairman after 10 years. 2001 England midfielder Owen Hargreaves was part of the Bayern Munich side which beat Valencia on penalties to win the Champions League final in Milan. 2002 Roy Keane left the Republic of Ireland’s pre-World Cup training camp on the Pacific island of Saipan after a row with national team manager Mick McCarthy, who branded him ‘’a disruptive influence’’. 2007 AC Milan won the Champions League, beating Liverpool 2-1 in the final in Athens. 2012 QPR midfielder Joey Barton was banned for 12 matches and fined £75,000 following his dismissal against Manchester City on the final day of the Premier League season. 2015 James DeGale won the IBF super-middleweight title against Andre Dirrell, becoming Great Britain’s first boxing Olympic champion to win a world title.
