East Kilbride captain Hari Singh is backing his men to start climbing the table after they held their nerve to carve out a thrilling one-wicket win over Dumfries at Torrance House on Saturday.

In the day’s most dramatic finale EK needed nine runs from the last over with their last pair at the crease while Josh Geary, with three wickets, had the ball and the initiative. However, a scrambled single and two crunching boundaries from Petrus Coetzee took the hosts over the line with three balls to spare.

Having restricted Dumfries to 191-8, East Kilbride were in trouble on 60-5. However, the in-form Ross Lyons hammered six boundaries and three maximums in a rapid halfcentury to put the match in the balance. His departure took the game back towards Dumfries only for Coetzee and his fellow tailenders to conjure one final twist.

Singh said: “It was the first time we had our full team out and it showed. A win like that it gives us a lot of confidence I’m hoping we can start making our way up the table.”

Elsewhere, leaders Ferguslie maintained their 100% record after a hard-fought win at Prestwick. The home side looked on course for a substantial total after Fraser MacDonald and Fazal Jawad made 45 and 48 respectively but Dave Stafford’s obstinate 49no guided the visitors to a five-wicket victory.

Brad Williams hit 90 and Qasim Sheikh 67 as Kelburne posted 211-5 to set up a 37-run win over Drumpellier at Whitehaugh and champions Clydesdale bounced back from defeat at Ferguslie with a thumping nine-wicket win over Ayr.
