where I am at the moment and continue in the same vein.”

Asked about receiving the Player of the Month award for the first time, Edouard said: “I am pleased. It is always nice to be recognised, but it’s not just about me it’s about my fellow players and the team. Five wins in five games doesn’t come from me, it comes from the team performance.”

Edouard appreciated that defeating Rennes, who beat Paris Saint-Germain at home last month and are currently second in Ligue 1, tomorrow night will be a difficult task for Celtic.

“I obviously watch the French championship regularly and they are a really good team,” he said. “They are doing very well and it is going to be a difficult game. They are waiting for us. It is not going to be easy.

“It’s a European game so you have to take everybody seriously no matter who the team is. You can’t take any team lightly. They must be ready. We are going to be ready. It is going to be a tough encounter.”

“I know some of them because we are the same generation of young players. I know their left back, [Faitout] Maouassa (inset). I probably know more of the young players who don’t necessarily play in the first team, but I know most of the young players who are there.”

Rennes are competing in the group stages of a European competition for only the second time in eight years. But Edouard doesn’t think that Celtic’s greater experience of continental competition will give them an advantage over their hosts, who reached the last 16 last season.

“It is all about this game, this 90 minutes,” he said. “The best team is going to win at the end of the 90 minutes. It is not about experience, it is about how ready you are.”
