Rangers proved a Euro point with win against Feyenoord, says Mols

-

MICHAEL MOLS reckons Rangers’ European rivals will sit up and take note of their impressive win over Feyenoord.

Rangers got their Group G campaign off to a perfect start with a 1-0 victory against the Dutch giants.

Manager Steven Gerrard insisted he is happy to be the underdog in the section but Mols believes his countrymen will now be wary of the threat Rangers pose.

Mols said: “It was a really good result. Feyenoord were the better side in the beginning but

Rangers changed it around.

At the end it was a little nerve-wracking but we got the result so that’s a good start in the European campaign.

“They don’t rate the Scottish league as high as the Premier league or the Spanish league and Rangers showed them it’s never easy to win here.

“Everybody looks at the group and thinks, ‘OK Porto is the favourite’. Feyenoord, Young Boys and Rangers are all a match.

“It’s hard to say that, so that’s why it was good to get a good start in the campaign, especially at home.

“But after Thursday the other teams have seen Rangers play and they’re more aware.”

Rangers returned to domestic action in style on Sunday as they saw off St Johnstone.

Alfredo Morelos opened the scoring before Jermain Defoe netted a late brace after Connor Goldson had clinched the win.

The strikers now have 20 goals between them after an impressive start to the season.

Mols said: “It’s difficult to keep them both happy. It’s to do with the opponents and the games you play. But, as a striker, you want to play every game but if the manager manages it well and lets them know the reason behind it you can cope with it and handle it better.

“At top clubs like Rangers there is always top competition for every position. That’s why you play for Rangers.

“If you’re not playing you need to show the manager you’re better than the one who’s playing. Because of that the standard will rise.”

After seeing Rangers in action against Feyenoord last week, Mols was back at Ibrox on Monday to promote a Legends game against Liverpool.

Alex McLeish will manage the Rangers side against their

Anfield peers and Mols said: “My last game at Ibrox was Rangers Legends game, when I scored against [Andy] Goram.

“Just like the old days when I scored four against him against Motherwell. Some things never change.”
