Katic vows to improve after agreeing new deal

-

RANGERS defender Nikola Katic has signed a new four-year deal at Ibrox.

The Croatian put pen to paper on a new contract last night. The centre-half signs his new terms that will keep him at the club until 2023 after joining Rangers last summer.

The 23-year-old told the club’s official website how proud he was to extend his stay and admits he’s desperate to improve – and can use his time wisely to become a better player.

He said: “I think it is a really good club for a young player, with this manager, a lot of fans and a lot of good players with experience from the Premier League and other leagues in the world that will definitely help me to grow every day and become a better person and a better player.

“We are in a really good position the club is growing day by day first in the league and hopefully we will keep that until the end which is they key point.

“We are in a really good position and hopefully that will help me and my team mates to become better players.”

Meanwhile, Hibernian head coach Paul Heckingbottom admits the Leith outfit have no intention of losing Graeme Mathie after the club’s head of recruitment was linked with Rangers.

Ross Wilson’s appointment as sporting director at Ibrox has led to suggestions that Mathie could be prised away to take on a similar role in Govan.

Heckingbottom said: “Graeme has been great while I have been here.

“I don’t pay attention to it, I’m not saying there isn truth in it.

“There is certainly some truth in the Kilmarnock thing. Whether there is in the Rangers one, I don’t know.

“Until things happen or there are decisions to be made, it is pointless worrying about it.”
