Taylor can’t wait to sample Old Firm atmosphere

- MATTHEW LINDSAY

GREG TAYLOR has vowed there will be no let-up from Scottish champions elect Celtic against Rangers at Ibrox.

The left-back helped

Neil Lennon’s side thrash St Mirren 5-0 at Parkhead on Saturday to extend their unbeaten domestic run to 13 games and move 16 points clear of Steven Gerrard’s team.

Taylor, though, stressed the cushion at the top of the league table is irrelevant to Celtic, who are chasing an unprecedented quadruple treble, and predicted they will continue to give their all between now and May.

“You can’t afford to take your foot off the pedal at a club this size,” he said. “You have to put on a performance every week.

“We beat St Mirren on Saturday and now we want to get a positive result at Rangers.

“We are aware there is added impetus because of the size of the fixture, but that’s a challenge we are all looking forward to.”

Taylor believes that having a free midweek for the first time since the winter shutdown will ensure Celtic are refreshed going into the game against Rangers, who play Bayer Leverkusen on in the Europa League on Thursday night, at Ibrox.

“We’d rather be playing in every competition, but it has been a long time since we had a free midweek,” he said.

“It has been constant since the start of the season with games every few days. So this is a chance to get a rest.

The 22-year-old, who signed for Celtic from Kilmarnock for £2.2m in September, didn’t play in the opening three Old

Firm games of the season.

“I haven’t played for Celtic against Rangers yet,” he added. “I signed the day after the first one this season and I was in the stand in December.

It’s a massive game and one I’m looking forward to.”
